    Exciting News from the Vatican!

Recently, the Holy See Press Office announced the findings of a preliminary canonical investigation into an anonymous accusation against Canadian Cardinal Gérald Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec. The investigation revealed that no misconduct or abuse took place, clearing the Cardinal’s name.

On 21 May, the Holy See Press Office released a statement affirming the conclusion of the report, stating that no actions of misconduct or abuse were found on the Cardinal’s part. This outcome means that no further canonical procedures are necessary.

Back on 8 February 2024, Pope Francis appointed Judge André Denis, a retired judge from the Superior Court of Québec, to investigate an accusation made in a class action lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Québec. The preliminary investigation concluded on 6 May 2024, and the report was promptly delivered to Pope Francis.

The Holy See Press Office highlighted that Judge Denis did not find any evidence of misconduct or abuse by Cardinal Lacroix based on the facts examined. As a result, no additional action is required in this matter.

Pope Francis has granted Judge André Denis permission to share a statement summarizing the investigation details and address any inquiries. The Pope commended Judge Denis for his impartial and timely completion of the investigation amidst the ongoing class action lawsuit.

This announcement brings relief and closure to the Cardinal and shows the importance of thorough investigations in addressing allegations. The Vatican continues to uphold integrity and transparency in handling such matters.
