Welcome to the latest update from Solwezi, Zambia! The Catholic Diocese of Solwezi recently saw the commissioning of fifteen new members of the CCJP, with Bishop Charles J.S. Kasonde leading the charge. The Bishop emphasized the importance of grounding advocacy for justice and peace in thorough research and factual information, especially in today’s era of social media.
Bishop Kasonde’s wise words serve as a reminder to beware of relying solely on social media for information, as it may not always present the full picture. He urged the new commissioners to seek out credible sources and conduct detailed research to ensure their advocacy efforts are based on solid facts.
The newly commissioned members, comprising of six women and nine men from various parishes in Solwezi Diocese, were equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge through rigorous training and formation. The Bishop invoked the Holy Spirit to guide them in their mission of promoting justice and defending the dignity and rights of all within the Diocese.
During the commissioning ceremony, the candidates recited a powerful Justice and Peace Prayer of Faith and Commitment, dedicating themselves to the noble cause of working towards justice, peace, and wholeness. They were then blessed and officially commissioned as full-fledged CCJP members.
Prior to their commissioning, the candidates underwent structured training that covered various modules including the spirituality of justice, economic justice, and parliamentary liaison. As part of their research project, the new members worked on an investigative study focused on the non-maintenance of the Kimiteto high-cost graveyard, highlighting their commitment to making a difference in their community.
With their certificates, IDs, and the Justice and Peace Constitution in hand, the fifteen new CCJP members are ready to embark on their meaningful journey of advocating for justice and peace in Solwezi Diocese.
