Cardinal Pietro Parolin will be stepping in on behalf of Pope Francis for the momentous occasion happening on the 21st of July. This appointment was made official through a formal Letter in Latin, appointing the Vatican Secretary of State as Pontifical Legate. Additionally, two priests – Fr Ruslan Mykhalkiv, and Fr Andriy Lehovich – will be joining Cardinal Parolin on this significant mission.
History of Berdychiv Shrine
While the Berdychiv shrine was officially recognized as a national shrine in 2011, the tradition of pilgrimages to this Marian sanctuary dates back centuries. In 1630, Yanush Tyshkevych, the governor of Kyiv, established a monastery at the site as a token of gratitude for the liberation from the Tatars. The shrine also houses a 16th-century icon of the Mother of God “of the Snow,” drawing pilgrims from all corners of the country seeking the miraculous blessings of Our Lady.
Prayers for Peace
Now, amidst the turmoil of war, the people of Ukraine are turning to the Virgin Mary for solace and peace. Pope Francis, in his Letter, urges Cardinal Parolin to lead the participants in continuous prayers for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and across the globe. The Virgin Mary stands as a beacon of hope and humility, showcasing God’s favor towards the humble and righteous.
In closing, Pope Francis extends his blessings and support to the people of Ukraine during these challenging times. Let us unite in prayer and solidarity for peace and reconciliation in the world.
