Get Ready: Venice Day-Tripper Ticket Prices Set to Soar to €10 on Busiest Days in 2025
Exciting yet pricey news for visitors planning a trip to Venice! In an effort to manage the overwhelming crowds flocking to the charming Italian canal city, Venice is gearing up to increase its day-tripper entry fee in 2025.
The initial trial scheme, launched this year, introduced a €5 entry ticket on 29 selected days, including public holidays and weekends from April to July. This move aimed to alleviate the strain caused by mass tourism on the city.
Starting next year, the city council intends to revamp the controversial entry fee structure. While a reduced rate of €3 will be offered to early birds who book in advance, the ticket price will spike to €10 on the busiest days.
Simone Venturini, Venice’s tourism councillor, stressed during a recent conference that the current pricing is inadequate. “Venice is still too cheap,” he stated, emphasizing the need for increased fees to curb excessive tourism.
Venturini further expressed, “Venice cannot contain all the people in the world. We have to be selective in welcoming visitors to a city that offers a unique experience within limited space.”
Addressing the rationale behind this change, budget councilor Michele Zuin outlined that the inflated entry fee aims to discourage excessive tourism. The hope is that people will plan their trips to Venice strategically instead of crowding the city on peak days.
The existing 29-day entry fee system is slated to conclude on July 14th. So far, it has attracted over 425,000 paying visitors, generating around €2 million in revenue – thrice the projected amount for all 29 days.
It’s important to note that the €5 entry fee only applies to day-trippers and excludes overnight visitors or residents of Venice.
