Your Excellency, what does it mean for you to carry out a Pontifical Representative Mission?
Archbishop Bettencourt emphasized the importance of representing the Pope faithfully in the places assigned to them. It is a profound responsibility undertaken in an environment of trust, where the representative becomes the Pope’s heart and arms to the people. Establishing a sense of closeness, solidarity, and unity within the Church on both local and universal levels is key. Being a Pontifical Representative entails embodying the values and vision of Pope Francis in the mission field.
Reflecting on your statement to the Bishops during the National Plenary Assembly, how do you view the Nunciature in the context of the Church family?
Archbishop Bettencourt shed light on the Nunciature as a symbol of unity and connection within the Church. He highlighted the historical significance of the house, which has hosted prestigious events like the signing of an encyclical by Pope John Paul II. The Nunciature serves as a meeting point for various societal entities and religious groups, fostering dialogue and collaboration. What priorities do you see for Pontifical Representatives in a missionary synod perspective?
