Embracing the Example of Total Dedication: Pope Francis Addresses Seminarians
Recently, Pope Francis delivered a moving address to the community members of the Major Seminary of “Nuestra Señora de los Apóstoles” in Getafe, Spain. As they commemorate the 30th anniversary of their foundation with a pilgrimage to the Tombs of the Apostles Peter and Paul, the Pope welcomed them warmly at the Vatican.
Expressing his gratitude for their visit, Pope Francis shared his hope that their Roman pilgrimage would also help prepare them spiritually for the upcoming Jubilee in 2025.
Drawing Inspiration from St. John Mary Vianney
During his address, Pope Francis urged the seminarians to reflect on the exemplary life of St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. He highlighted the unwavering dedication of the famous French parish priest, also known as the Curé d’Ars, to God and his parishioners as a model of Christ-like love.
Recognizing the challenges of being a Good Shepherd, Pope Francis emphasized the importance of nurturing spiritual life, academic pursuits, community bonds, and outreach activities. He stressed the need for seminarians to embody integrity, generosity, and compassion, especially towards the marginalized and disadvantaged.
A Call to Devotion and Compassion
In closing, Pope Francis appealed to the seminarians to center their lives around Jesus, seeking guidance and inspiration from Him. He invoked the intercession of Our Lady of the Angels, the patron of Getafe, to accompany them on their journey towards priesthood.
As we reflect on Pope Francis’ encouraging words to the seminarians, may we also discover ways to emulate the spirit of total dedication and love in our own lives.
