Exciting news for the skateboarding world! Alex Sorgente, the 26-year-old skater born in Florida and now residing in California but competing for Italy, has secured a spot in the Park final, one of the two Olympic disciplines of Skateboarding, for Paris 2024. Sorgente clinched the third-highest score in the eliminations, with only Tokyo 2020 champion Keegan Palmer from Australia and American skater Tom Schaar scoring better than him.
Not far behind, in eleventh place, is another Italian skater Alessandro Mazzara. Among the five other finalists are another Australian, another American, and three Brazilians. The battle for the medals is set to begin at 5:30 PM.
Bringing a unique story to the mix is 49-year-old South African skater Dallas Oberholzer, who finished last in the qualifications. Despite his age, Oberholzer, who placed 20th in Tokyo and 22nd in the recent event, claims to have never worked a day in his life, always dedicating himself to skateboarding. Qualified for the Games as the best specialist from Africa once again, he founded the ‘Indigo Youth Movement’ in Durban, where he has built skate parks and ramps in the hope of nurturing a South African champion of color in his sport. “In the meantime, I keep these kids away from drugs and gangs,” he explained.
