Gianmarco Tamberi has qualified for the high jump final at Paris 2024, among the top 12. The Italian, who won Olympic gold in Tokyo but fell ill in recent days due to a kidney colic with fever, stopped at 2.24, failing three attempts at 2.27. He still made it into the top 12. Also joining him is another Italian, Stefano Sottile, with the same performance.
After clearing 2.20 and 2.24, Tamberi made his first mistake in the Paris 2024 high jump qualifiers at 2.27. Shortly after, in the other group, his friend Barshim cleared the bar, who shared the gold with him in Tokyo, while Gimbo had to withdraw due to a calf injury. Before the medics arrived, Tamberi rushed to ‘rescue’ him, helping him likely resolve the cramp.
Third attempt and third mistake at 2.27 for Gianmarco Tamberi in the qualifiers for the high jump final at Paris 2024.
