    Questa mattina, il segretario di Stato ha avuto una conversazione con il neo presidente dell’Iran per esprimere la preoccupazione della Santa Sede riguardo al rischio di escalation della guerra e per sottolineare l’importanza del dialogo, del negoziato e della pace.

    Mentre la minaccia di un attacco iraniano su Israele si fa sempre più concreta, il cardinale segretario di Stato Pietro Parolin ha avuto una telefonata questa mattina, il 12 agosto, con il neo presidente dell’Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. Durante la conversazione telefonica, il cardinale ha sottolineato l’importanza del dialogo, dei negoziati e della pace, esprimendo la contrarietà ad un’ulteriore espansione di un conflitto già molto grave. La notizia è stata diffusa dal direttore della Sala Stampa vaticana, Matteo Bruni.

    La telefonata ha visto il cardinale congratularsi con il presidente iraniano per l’inizio del suo mandato avviato a luglio. Sono stati affrontati “temi di comune interesse”, ma il punto principale è stato l’espressione della seria preoccupazione da parte della Santa Sede per la situazione in Medio Oriente, sottolineando la necessità di evitare un ulteriore allargamento del conflitto e favorendo invece il dialogo, i negoziati e la pace.

    La situazione attuale

    È noto che si attende un attacco da parte dell’Iran su Israele in risposta alla morte del leader politico di Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, avvenuta il 31 luglio a Teheran. Anche se in passato sono stati registrati attacchi, questo rischia di essere particolarmente grave e la comunità internazionale sta facendo appelli per evitare questa escalation che metterebbe in pericolo l’intera regione del Medio Oriente.

    L’appello del Papa

    Il Papa, al termine di un udienza generale, ha rinnovato l’appello a tutte le parti coinvolte affinché il conflitto non si estenda e venga immediatamente interrotto il fuoco su tutti i fronti, a partire da Gaza, dove la situazione umanitaria è grave e insostenibile. Il Papa ha invocato la ricerca sincera della pace per porre fine alle contese, far prevalere l’amore sull’odio e disarmare la vendetta con il perdono.
