Welcome One Church, One People: The Theme Song for Pope Francis’ Upcoming Visit to Singapore
The Catholic community in Singapore is buzzing with excitement as they eagerly prepare for Pope Francis’ Apostolic Visit to the nation. What better way to welcome the Holy Father than with a brand new theme song? According to Catholic News, the official publication of the Archdiocese of Singapore, the community has introduced a stirring anthem titled “One Church, One People.”
The mastermind behind this powerful composition is none other than Ethan Hsu, a talented musician and founding member of the local band Mystic Font. As a devoted parishioner of the Church of Saint Mary of the Angels, Hsu poured his heart and soul into creating a song that beautifully narrates salvation history from Genesis to the New Testament, culminating with a powerful depiction of the Holy Trinity.
“One Church, One People” serves as a poignant reminder that we are all part of one cohesive Church, guided by the Holy Spirit and united as the people of God to spread light in this world. Hsu, who is no stranger to creating music for Church retreats, sought divine inspiration through prayer to infuse the composition with the spiritual essence of the Catholic faith.
Despite facing challenges along the way, including fine-tuning the lyrics to align with theological and aesthetic standards, Hsu embraced the process as a testament to unity and hope. “It was testimony that we found unity and hope in this project, even within our own little work group,” he shared. “How we dealt with conflict enabled outcomes to be positive and life-giving.”
Mystic Font, a band established in 2020 with four passionate members, has already made a mark by supporting charitable causes such as ABLE, a service agency for the physically disabled, and the Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants & Itinerant People (ACMI), which lends a helping hand to migrant workers in Singapore.
The theme song “One Church, One People” was officially launched on August 13 and is now available for all to enjoy on the Archdiocese’s YouTube channel. This powerful anthem not only reflects liturgical principles but also aims to foster unity within the Church community.
