Pope Francis issues a heartfelt plea for peace, expressing his concern about the numerous conflicts around the world at the end of the general audience. Speaking off-the-cuff after greeting Italian pilgrims, the Pontiff urges not to forget “the tormented Ukraine suffering so much” and nations still experiencing warfare.
Let us not forget Myanmar, South Sudan, North Kivu, and the many countries in conflict.
The call to pray for peace
As the military advances of Moscow in Donetsk and Kyiv in Russian territory continue, and hopes rise for Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Pope Francis once again asks for prayers for the cessation of weapons.
Let us pray for peace. And let us not forget Palestine and Israel: may there be peace there.
The need for the fruits of the Spirit
The Pope also invoked peace while greeting Polish-speaking believers in the Paul VI Hall, emphasizing the essential need for the fruits of the Spirit in various social dimensions today.
Our world, marked by wars and divisions, more than ever needs the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Starting from your families and workplaces, bring love, peace, and goodness into your daily lives.
Lastly, recalling the recent pilgrimages on foot to Jasna Góra, Francis hopes that the prayers of the faithful, through the intercession of Mary, “grant the world the gift of the long-desired peace.”
