    La celebrazione presieduta dal card. Ranjith insieme all’arcivescovo di Goa, il card. Filipe Neri Ferrao, ha avuto un’atmosfera particolarmente solenne. Da papa Francesco è arrivato un messaggio di vicinanza ai malati e ai pellegrini: invoco su di voi il dono del coraggio e della perseveranza. Anche buddhisti, musulmani e indù raccontano le grazie ricevute dalla Vergine.

    Tewatta: 50th Anniversary of Our Lady of Lanka’s Proclamation

    Colombo (AsiaNews) – Domenica 25 agosto, l’annuale benedizione dei malati presso la basilica di Tewatta ha avuto un significato speciale poiché la basilica festeggia i cinquanta anni dal riconoscimento come santuario nazionale di Nostra Signora di Lanka. Cattolici e non cattolici da tutto il Paese si sono riuniti, raccontando di aver ricevuto benedizioni fisiche e spirituali, testimoniando la forza della fede.

    Anche musulmani, indù e buddisti si sono recati al santuario per chiedere l’intercessione di Nostra Signora di Lanka. Durante la recita del rosario in tre lingue diverse (sinhala, inglese e tamil) e la benedizione eucaristica, presieduta dall’arcivescovo di Colombo, il card. Malcom Ranjith, e con la partecipazione dell’arcivescovo di Goa, il card. Filipe Neri Ferrao, è stato trasmesso un messaggio del Papa in occasione del Giubileo d’Oro della basilica.

    Nel suo messaggio, papa Francesco ha espresso il desiderio di vicinanza e preghiera per i pellegrini malati, invocando il dono del coraggio e della perseveranza da parte di Dio. L’arcivescovo di Colombo, il card. Malcolm Ranjith, ha invitato i presenti a ringraziare Dio per il contesto pacifico che permette al popolo dello Sri Lanka di riunirsi in preghiera in quel luogo sacro. Ha sottolineato l’amore materno di Dio manifestato attraverso la presenza di Nostra Signora di Lanka.

    Tra i fedeli devoti a Nostra Signora di Lanka, una famiglia buddhista proveniente dalla provincia centrale di Polonnaruwa ha condiviso il proprio miracolo. La signora Marita Perera ha raccontato di una guarigione avvenuta dopo anni di sofferenza grazie all’intercessione della Madonna. Questi testimonianze di fede e miracoli hanno reso la celebrazione ancora più significativa e toccante per tutti i presenti.
