
The Dominican Family Launches New Educational Resource on Climate Change and Human Rights
Empowering youth with knowledge and awareness about climate change and human rights is crucial in shaping the future of our planet. That’s why the Dominicans for Justice and Peace, in collaboration with the Dominican Family for Justice, Peace, and Care for Creation – Philippines, have launched a groundbreaking educational resource.
The handbook, titled “Climate Change and Human Rights Education for Youth in the Philippines,” was officially introduced in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office and the Center for Continuing Professional Education and Development.
During the launch event, Ms. Laurence Blattmer, Program Coordinator for Dominicans for Justice and Peace, emphasized the importance of equipping educators with the necessary tools to teach students about the vital connection between climate change and human rights.
Fr. Aniedi Okure, OP, General Promoter of Justice and Peace and Permanent Delegate to the United Nations, highlighted the urgent responsibility humanity holds toward the environment and future generations. He stressed the importance of caring for the land we borrow from the future.
The launch event included insightful discussions led by human rights advocates, climate activists, and academics, all recognizing the pivotal role educators play in raising awareness about these critical issues.
Prior to the launch, a workshop was conducted at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, focusing on integrating climate change and human rights education into the national curriculum.
