Italy Celebrates the Iconic Sophia Loren in Rome
Hollywood legend Sophia Loren reaches a monumental milestone as she turns 90, commemorated with a glamorous gala event and party in the heart of Rome, surrounded by loved ones and distinguished guests.
The esteemed Oscar-winning Italian actress, a shining star from Hollywood’s Golden Age, will be honored by Italy’s culture ministry, Cinecittà film studios, and Archivio Luce at The Space Cinema Moderno in Piazza della Repubblica.
At the exclusive gala affair, Loren will be presented with a prestigious award recognizing her illustrious career that took root in the bustling streets of Rome in the early 1950s.
Reflecting on her journey, Loren shared, “I love this city, where it all began. I arrived in Rome with my mother when I was 15 and I started working as an extra. It was a choice that changed the course of my life.”
The celebration will continue with a rooftop soirée at the lavish Anantara Palazzo Naiadi hotel, where special guests will offer a heartfelt toast to the cinema icon, elegantly clad in a gown designed by her dear friend Giorgio Armani.
The hotel will unveil the exquisite Sophia Loren Suite in her honor, adorned with white roses synonymous with the actress, a portrait of Pozzuoli, her hometown near Naples, cherished family photographs, and her favorite literary works.
Surrounded by her adoring family, including sons Edoardo and Carlo Ponti, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sister Maria Scicolone, and nieces Alessandra and Elisabetta Mussolini, along with a gathering of 100 friends and colleagues from the film industry, Loren will bask in the festivities.
Italy’s national broadcaster will pay tribute by showcasing documentaries, archival footage, and films highlighting the legendary actress, who will also be celebrated with a retrospective at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles come November.
