Today, over three thousand people gathered for the 32nd Marian Day of the Family at the sanctuary of Torreciudad. Despite the rain forcing the events indoors, the day was presided over by the bishop of Barbastro-Monzón, Mons. Ángel Pérez Pueyo. He emphasized the importance of the family as a space for love, forgiveness, and service. Attendees included the mayors of Secastilla, El Grado, Graus, and Estadilla, along with councilors and the deputy of the Provincial Council of Huesca, Javier Catalán.
Due to the weather, the locations for the offering of flowers and fruits were changed, as well as the children’s offerings to the Virgin of Torreciudad. The Alborada Choir performed at noon, followed by a rosary in the afternoon, and a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament.
The Family: A Sanctuary of the Ordinary
In his homily, the Bishop highlighted the family as a place of reconstruction in a fragmented world. He mentioned how the family teaches us to be fully human and reflect the love we receive from God in our daily lives. Referring to Saint Josemaría Escrivá, he described the family as a sanctuary of simplicity where great things happen quietly in everyday life, transforming the world through love and service.
Pope Francis sent a message urging families to care for their homes and offer their testimony of faith in Christ during moments of adversity. He emphasized the family as the foundation of love and relationships.
Assessment of Authorities
Local authorities expressed their joy and gratitude for the day’s events despite the weather challenges. They emphasized the unity and fraternity felt among the families present and the spiritual significance of the sanctuary.
The event was organized by the Torreciudad Patronage Association and supported by various groups and volunteers, ensuring a smooth experience for the attendees despite the weather.
