Exciting Updates on World Youth Day 2027 in Seoul

On Tuesday, September 24th, a press conference at the Holy See Press Office was abuzz with news about the upcoming World Youth Day (WYD) 2027 to be hosted in Seoul, Korea. Archbishop Soon-Taick Chung and Bishop Kyung Sang Lee shared details and updates regarding this highly-anticipated international youth gathering.

The theme for the 41st World Youth Day (2026 and Seoul 2027) was revealed, drawing inspiration from John’s Gospel with Jesus’ reassuring words: “Take courage! I have overcome the world.” (Jn 16:33). Additionally, a glimpse into the theme for the 40th World Youth Day in 2025 was also shared, reflecting on Jesus’ words: “You also are my witnesses, because you have been with me” (Jn 15:27).

Key figures like Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Archbishop Peter Soon-Taick Chung, Bishop Paul Kyung Sang Lee, and Ms. Gabriela Su-Ji Kim shed light on the preparations for WYD 2027. Bishop Kyung-sang Lee expressed gratitude to Pope Francis for selecting the theme, emphasizing its relevance to the challenges faced by the Catholic Church in Korea and today’s youth.

The unveiling of the event logo brought a vibrant touch to the gathering, symbolizing Christ’s triumph over the world. The design, deeply rooted in Korean art, showcased a harmonious blend of colors and elements representing the unity of God’s will on Earth.

Archbishop Soon-taick Chung highlighted the rich history of the Korean Catholic Church and its unwavering faith, set to inspire young attendees in 2027. Cardinal Farrell emphasized the spiritual benefits of WYD for the Church globally and Asia’s role in promoting intercultural dialogue and peace.

Ms. Suji Gabriella, a young Korean leader, shared her enthusiasm for reigniting faith through WYD Seoul 2027. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, she remained optimistic about fostering unity and hope among participants from diverse backgrounds.

With such promising updates and a strong sense of anticipation, WYD Seoul 2027 is set to be a transformative and unforgettable experience for young pilgrims worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates as we gear up for this inspiring journey of faith and unity!
