By Vatican News
Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, Pope Francis’ special envoy for seeking peace in Ukraine, recently concluded a significant three-day visit to Moscow. His mission was not only to foster collaboration and explore pathways for peace but also to strengthen ties between the Vatican and Russia.
During his visit, Cardinal Zuppi engaged in high-level discussions with key government officials, including Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and various leaders on issues relating to humanitarian rights and peace efforts in Ukraine. The aim was to assess the progress made in crucial areas such as family reunification of minors, prisoner exchanges, care for the wounded, and honoring the fallen.
Additionally, Cardinal Zuppi met with Metropolitan Antonij of Volokolamsk, President of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, to discuss important humanitarian matters and strengthen interfaith dialogue.
The visit provided a platform for Cardinal Zuppi to explore new avenues for continued collaboration and to emphasize the importance of peace-building efforts not only in Ukraine but across the region.
