Idania Chirinos escaped from Venezuela during the Hugo Chávez regime in 2010, when censorship was already prevalent in Caracas. At the time, the journalist was the vice president of Unión Radio, the most important radio station in the South American country, and faced many pressures from the regime on the program she hosted. When she received an offer from the new Spanish-language international all-news channel Ntn24 in Colombia 14 years ago, the director of Unión Radio told her: “Go because things will only get worse here.” Today, Idania is part of the diaspora, along with over two million Venezuelans living in Colombia, and Tempi interviewed her.
