Following the canonization Mass, Pope Francis delivered a powerful message during the Angelus, urging for prayers for countries plagued by war and acknowledging the importance of Saint Joseph Allamano in caring for vulnerable populations. He emphasized the need to take action against exploitation and protect the dignity and territories of the marginalized.
“Let us continue to pray for those suffering in conflict zones such as Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Ukraine, Sudan, Myanmar, and others, and ask for the gift of peace for all,” the Pope reiterated.
During his address, Pope Francis specifically greeted the Maronite faithful and missionaries of Consolata, a foundation established by Saint Joseph Allamano. He also recognized Italian President Sergio Mattarella and a significant Ugandan delegation celebrating the 60th anniversary of the canonization of the Ugandan martyrs.
Protecting the Vulnerable
Pope Francis highlighted the importance of caring for the most fragile individuals, mentioning the Yanomami people from the Amazon rainforest, whose miracle was connected to the day’s canonization:
“I urge political and civil authorities to protect these people and their inherent rights, while combatting any form of exploitation of their dignity and land,” the Pope stressed.
The Mission of Every Christian
In light of World Mission Day’s theme, “Go and invite everyone to the banquet,” Pope Francis emphasized that evangelization is a joyful encounter with God, calling on every Christian to participate in this universal mission through their witness in all spheres of life.
“Let us show our support through prayers and aid for missionaries who courageously spread the Gospel to all corners of the world,” he added.
As the Angelus concluded, the Pope greeted the crowd in St. Peter’s Square from the Popemobile, showcasing his connection with the faithful.
