Celebrating Culture: Jakarta Concert Orchestra Performs in Italy
As we eagerly anticipate Pope Francis’ upcoming apostolic visit to Indonesia in October 2024, the Jakarta Concert Orchestra (JCO) is currently in Italy, spreading the joy of Indonesian music and culture. This initiative, titled Armonie Indonesiane (Indonesian Harmonies), aims to strengthen the cultural bonds between Indonesia, the Holy See, and Italy.
Under the guidance of Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, Benedetto Latteri, the orchestra is set to perform two concerts; the first will take place in Como, Northern Italy, on October 26th, followed by a second performance in Rome on October 28th. These concerts will showcase classical renditions of Indonesian songs, providing Italian audiences with a unique glimpse into the musical traditions of Indonesia.
Conducted by the talented Avip Priatna, founder of the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, and featuring the award-winning Batavia Madrigal Singers, this event promises to be a mesmerizing blend of Indonesian and Italian culture. Priatna expressed his excitement for this cultural exchange, highlighting the significance of sharing Indonesian music in a classical format with Italian audiences.
If you’re in Rome on October 28th, don’t miss the chance to attend this extraordinary event at the Auditorium della Conciliazione, near St. Peter’s Square. Admission is free, and all are welcome to witness this captivating fusion of music and tradition.
