Experience the Future: Rome’s New High-Tech Bus Shelters.
Rome is set to revolutionize the commuting experience with the installation of new high-tech bus shelters equipped with cutting-edge technology, announced by the city’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
These innovative ‘Eterna‘ bus shelters not only offer protection from the elements but also provide interactive touchscreen services and USB charging points, transforming the wait time from passive to active.
With touchscreens displaying real-time bus arrival information, cultural site details, and city events in Italian and English, commuters will have access to valuable information at their fingertips.
Furthermore, the touchscreens will facilitate trip planning and communication with the municipal transport provider ATAC, enhancing the overall commuting experience.
The ambitious project includes the installation of 435 new high-tech bus shelters at various stops across Rome, along with the refurbishment of over 9,600 existing shelters through maintenance and redecoration.
Mayor Gualtieri emphasized the sustainability aspect of the initiative, mentioning that old shelters replaced by the new Eterna version will be repurposed at bus stops lacking shelter facilities.
Set to commence in November, the installation of the first Eterna shelters aims for completion by the first half of 2025, marking a significant leap towards integrating smart services for a more efficient urban mobility experience in Rome.
This initiative aligns with Rome’s preparations for the Vatican’s Jubilee Year 2025, anticipating millions of visitors to the Eternal City and emphasizing the importance of advanced infrastructure to cater to the influx of pilgrims and tourists.
