Dear Esteemed President,
The presentation of INAIL’s annual report serves as a valuable opportunity to delve deeper into the statistics surrounding workplace accidents and occupational diseases. These figures are pivotal in shaping effective prevention policies to ensure the well-being of workers across the nation.
Your government has placed a strong emphasis on workplace health and safety, engaging in productive discussions with employers’ organizations and trade unions. Collaborating with all stakeholders is essential in fostering a culture of prevention that will ultimately lead to a decrease in workplace incidents.
The strategy employed by the government involves a three-pronged approach: enhanced prevention measures, increased inspections, and stricter penalties for violators. Concrete steps have already been taken, such as the recruitment of 1,600 additional workplace inspectors to bolster inspection efforts.
One notable initiative, the ‘credits-based license’ for the building industry, has recently been implemented to monitor and incentivize improved health and safety conditions at worksites. This measure rewards compliant companies while penalizing those that fall short of standards.
In addition, the government has ramped up actions against both administrative and criminal violations, reinstating the offense of unlawful labor provision. These measures aim to curtail the growth of this particular offense that has been on the rise over the years.
As we contemplate the future of INAIL, it is imperative to address the challenges ahead and fortify its mission. This includes updating legislation, enhancing prevention initiatives, improving social services, advancing research collaborations, and promoting a widespread culture of health and safety.
It is crucial to instill awareness of workplace health and safety in educational settings to empower citizens with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. Ensuring workplace health and safety is not a burden; it is a fundamental right that requires collective action from all stakeholders.
INAIL’s expertise and professionalism have been instrumental in shaping national strategies to combat occupational health and safety issues. Together, we can build a cohesive and effective approach to safeguard the well-being of all workers.
Thank you for your dedication to this critical cause, and I wish you continued success in your endeavors.
Warm regards,
Giorgia Meloni
