Welcome to the Vatican! Pope Francis recently addressed the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, commonly known as Passionists, urging them to continue spreading Christ’s redemptive presence to a world marked by suffering, wars, poverty, and divisions.
As they concluded their 48th General Chapter in Rome, themed “Here I am, send me” from Isaiah 6:8, the Passionists reflected on how to respond to the challenges of our times while living and proclaiming Christ’s Passion. Founded by St. Paul of the Cross in 1720, the Congregation aims to carry out its mission in the world.
Speaking inspired by Isaiah’s words, Pope Francis encouraged the Passionists to embrace new paths of evangelization while preserving their founder’s charism. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a contemplative life as a source of love for God and humanity.
Reflecting on St. Paul of the Cross’s spirituality, Pope Francis highlighted the importance of continuing his legacy of proclaiming Christ’s redemptive presence amidst the sufferings of today. The Pope also stressed the significance of love in bringing hope, especially in times of struggle and despair.
As the Chapter coincided with the Synod on synodality and the upcoming Jubilee focused on hope, Pope Francis called on the Passionists to look to Mary as an example of faith and selfless service in spreading the message of salvation.
Embracing their mission with truth, compassion, and a comforting presence, the Passionists are encouraged to follow Mary’s example in living out their consecration and spreading the message of salvation to those in need.
Overall, Pope Francis’s words serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of continuing the mission of love, hope, and service in a world yearning for redemption.
