    Piazza Pia, la nuova area pedonale che collega Castel Sant’Angelo con il Lungotevere, via della Conciliazione e piazza San Pietro, è già affollata da cittadini e turisti. Le foto scattate il 26 dicembre, Santo Stefano, lo dimostrano.

    Era il cantiere simbolo del Giubileo 2025. La piazza dell’abbraccio, come l’ha definita il sindaco Gualtieri. E la nuova piazza Pia, per ora, sembra aver mantenuto le promesse: già dopo poche ore dall’inaugurazione, la nuova area pedonale è piena di cittadini e turisti. Le fotografie scattate il 26 dicembre, Santo Stefano, lo confermano.

    Una scommessa vinta, come sembra essere anche via Ottaviano. Il nuovo ‘boulevard’ si è riempito di romani e visitatori negli ultimi giorni dello shopping natalizio, con i commercianti entusiasti per il restyling della nuova strada.

    Piazza Pia è il cantiere simbolo del Giubileo e sarà sede di molti eventi previsti per l’Anno Santo. Il nuovo sottopasso per le automobili promette di risolvere i problemi di traffico della zona. Le macchine non saranno più rallentate dal semaforo che divideva Castel Sant’Angelo e via della Conciliazione.

    La nuova piazza è stata inaugurata il 23 dicembre, dopo 450 giorni di lavori durante i quali sono stati scoperti antichi reperti come una ‘fullonica’ romana e i resti del Portico di Caligola.

    “Ci credevano in pochi, ma ce l’abbiamo fatta! Per raggiungere questo traguardo abbiamo dovuto fare una vera e propria corsa contro il tempo”, ha detto il sindaco Gualtieri. “Qui nasce un nuovo polo urbano pensato nel segno della sostenibilità, con nuove aree ombreggiate da alberi nella grande gradonata, nuove fontane, e un sofisticato sistema di canalizzazione dell’acqua piovana. Questo nuovo spazio pubblico è una vera e propria ‘piazza dell’abbraccio’.
