Welcome to the 40th anniversary celebration of St. Louis College, Thailand’s pioneering Catholic nursing institution! Founded with a vision to produce graduates embodying service, compassion, and professional excellence, the college stands as a beacon of faith-driven education in the heart of Thailand.
Leading the commemoration was a solemn Eucharistic ceremony officiated by Bishop Francis Xavier Vira Arponratana, Archbishop-elect of Bangkok. In his address, Bishop Arponratana paid homage to the college’s founder, Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu, Archbishop Emeritus of Bangkok, who continues to guide the institution as Chairman of the College Council.
Reflecting on the college’s beginnings, Sr. Christophe K. Bhekanan, SPC, shared the inspiring story of its inception in 1984, inspired by a visit from Pope John Paul II. The meeting between the Pope, Cardinal Kitbunchu, Mother Miriam Kitcharoen, and Dr. Mana Boonkhanphol paved the way for the establishment of a diocesan nursing college, approved by the Ministry of University Affairs in 1985.
Under the motto “Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est” (“Where there is charity and love, God is there”), St. Louis College has thrived under the transformative leadership of Cardinal Kitbunchu. Cardinal Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovithavanij praised the institution’s dedication to fostering compassion and mercy, embodying the ‘civilization of love’ taught by Jesus Christ.
Throughout its 40-year journey, St. Louis College has stayed true to its mission of nurturing professionals with both competence and compassion, in line with Cardinal Kitbunchu’s vision. The institution’s impact has reached far beyond Thailand’s borders through collaborations with domestic and international partners, elevating its teaching and research to global standards.
The Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, who also oversee St. Louis Hospital, have played a vital role in advancing the college’s mission, planting seeds of love and mercy that inspire the entire community to embody these values in their work and personal lives.
Celebrating 40 years of faith-driven education, St. Louis College continues to shine as a beacon of excellence in nursing education, guided by the principles of faith, love, and service. Here’s to another 40 years of producing compassionate and competent healthcare professionals!
