Hamas suspends the release of Israeli hostages scheduled for Saturday ‘until further notice’ and accuses Israel of not fulfilling the obligations of the agreement. The ceasefire is back in the balance. For the State of Israel, this is a ‘total violation’ of the ceasefire. Defense Minister Katz puts the IDF on ‘maximum alert’ for ‘any possible scenario’ in Gaza and at the border: ‘We will not return to the reality of October 7th.’
Hamas negotiators have stated that the US guarantees for the ceasefire are no longer valid in light of President Trump’s plan to move Palestinians out of Gaza. This was affirmed by two Egyptian security sources to Reuters, as reported by the Times of Israel. Mediators fear the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement after Hamas announced the postponement of the next prisoner exchange, accusing Israel of violating the truce. Mediators have postponed talks until a clear indication is received of Washington’s intention to continue the phased agreement.
Donald Trump has stated that Palestinians would have no right of return under his plan to take control of Gaza.
“No, they don’t, because they’ll have much better housing,” Trump told Bret Baier in an excerpt from an interview on Fox News when asked if Palestinians would have the right to return. “In other words, I’m talking about building a permanent place for them,” he explained.
Trump had previously claimed to be committed to acquiring and controlling Gaza, but that he could grant some areas to other Middle Eastern countries to assist in the reconstruction.
