The Vatican’s Jubilee of Artists: A Celebration of Culture and Heritage
The Vatican is abuzz with excitement as the imminent Jubilee of Artists approaches, set to take place from February 15-18, 2025. This special event is expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent that the world has to offer.
One of the highlights of the Jubilee will be a special Mass presided over by Pope Francis himself. This historic occasion will be followed by a visit to Rome’s iconic movie studio, Cinecitta, marking the first-ever papal visit to the studios.
During a recent press conference at the Holy See Press Office, key speakers including Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Senator Lucia Borgonzoni, and Pres. Lina Di Domenico shared insights into the upcoming event. The Vatican Museums’ director, Barbara Jatta, also offered valuable perspectives on the significance of this Jubilee.
Exploring Cultural Heritage
The Jubilee will kick off with a General Audience with Pope Francis, providing artists and cultural enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to engage with the pontiff. This will be followed by an international meeting titled “Sharing Hope—Horizons of Cultural Heritage,” co-hosted by the Dicastery for Culture and Education and the Vatican Museum.
Attendees will have the chance to delve into discussions on promoting and preserving religious and artistic heritage, culminating in the signing of an educational manifesto. The event will also feature the opening of the Window Gallery “Conciliazione 5” and a special presentation by artist Yan Pei-Ming.
A Historic Visit and Artistic Pilgrimage
The festivities will continue with a Eucharistic celebration at St. Peter’s Basilica, led by Pope Francis, followed by a pilgrimage through the Holy Door of the Basilica. The highlight of the Jubilee will be the pontiff’s visit to Cinecittà, where he will meet with artists and cultural figures in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture.
The event will conclude with the opening of the exhibition “Global Visual Poetry: Transnational Trajectories in Visual Poetry,” curated by Raffaella Perna, showcasing the innovative contributions of visual poetry in the 20th century.
