“The Pope enjoyed a restful night and woke up feeling refreshed. He started the day by catching up on the newspapers and having breakfast as usual. His therapy is ongoing, and we eagerly await the next update at 5 pm,” shared Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni in a statement to journalists on Sunday.
Pope Francis was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Friday due to his ongoing battle with bronchitis. After a series of medical tests, adjustments were made to his pharmacological treatment, and thankfully, he has not had any fever episodes.
The medical team attending to the Pope has prescribed complete rest to aid in his recovery. This led to the cancellation of a special Jubilee Audience for Artists and the World of Culture on Saturday. Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonca stepped in to celebrate Holy Mass on the Pope’s behalf on Sunday morning.
Despite his absence, the text prepared by Pope Francis for the Sunday Angelus reflection was shared by the Holy See Press Office as per his request.
As Matteo Bruni confirmed during his morning briefing, the next health update on Pope Francis is scheduled for 5 pm Rome time. Let us continue to keep the Pontiff in our thoughts and prayers for a swift recovery.
