In a statement released on Monday, the Press Office revealed, “The results of the medical tests have shown a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract, necessitating a change in therapy. The Pope’s condition is complex and requires appropriate hospitalization.”
Pope Francis, who was hospitalized on 14 February with bronchitis, is said to be in good spirits. The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, confirmed that the Pope has been in contact with the parishioners of the Holy Family Parish in Gaza, offering his blessings and prayers.
