In a devastating turn of events, over 200 terrorists launched a series of attacks on three villages in western Burkina Faso, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 26 lives, including six Christians. The attackers set homes ablaze, forcing residents to flee for their lives. Subsequent attacks in the following days only added to the death toll, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The distressing news was conveyed to the Catholic aid organization “Aid to the Church in Need” by Fr. Jean-Pierre Keita, who not only serves as an ACN project partner but also suffered personal loss in the attacks, including the death of his father and other family members.
The attacks occurred in the parish of Tansila, a vital hub in Banwa province with a significant Christian population. Fr. Jean-Pierre has issued a heartfelt plea for prayers, urging all to pray for a transformation of hearts towards peace and harmony. He also called for prayers for the authorities, security forces, and volunteers working tirelessly for the nation’s stability and unity.
Amidst the turmoil, two dedicated catechists from the Diocese of Dédougou were tragically killed by bandits while returning from their training sessions. The senseless violence has left the community reeling from the loss of these faithful servants.
Aid to the Church in Need has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the region and has called for solidarity in prayer for the affected communities, the grieving families, and the overall peace in Burkina Faso. The ongoing insecurity and persecution faced by Christian communities in the country demand urgent attention and support.
