Even while hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic, Pope Francis continues to carry out his duties governing the Church. The Pontiff has accepted the resignation from the pastoral leadership of the Diocese of Baie-Comeau in Canada, submitted by Monsignor Jean-Pierre Blais.
In his place, the Pontiff has appointed Father Pierre Charland as the bishop of Baie-Comeau, who was previously the provincial minister of the Franciscans in Canada. Monsignor Blais, aged 75, is mentioned in the list of sexual abusers filed in the class action against the Archdiocese of Quebec.
