A Update on Pope Francis’ Health
The Vatican News reported that Pope Francis had a peaceful night following a press conference held by his doctors at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for double pneumonia. The Holy See Press Office revealed that the Pope is responding well to therapy, although he is still considered to be in a precarious condition.
During the press conference, Dr. Sergio Alfieri and Dr. Luigi Carbone provided more details about the Pope’s health status. They mentioned that the Pope is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another week and clarified that while he is not in immediate danger of death, he is not completely out of danger either.
Dr. Alfieri highlighted that although the Pope is not on a ventilator, he is still experiencing difficulties with his breathing, leading to restricted movement. Despite this, the Pope remains in good spirits, sitting up in a chair, working, and even cracking jokes with his doctors.
One heartwarming anecdote shared by Dr. Alfieri was that when a doctor greeted the Pope with “Hello, Holy Father,” the Pope playfully responded with “Hello, Holy Son.”
While there are concerns about the possibility of sepsis due to germs in the Pope’s respiratory tract, Dr. Alfieri expressed confidence that Pope Francis will eventually be discharged from the hospital and return to Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican. However, he cautioned that the Pope’s chronic respiratory issues will persist even after his release.
