The Holy See Press Office revealed this exciting development on Tuesday, sharing that Pope Francis has made amendments to the Fundamental Law of Vatican City State (May 13, 2023) and Law No. CCLXXIV on the Government of Vatican City State (November 25, 2018).
Effective March 1, 2025, two new Secretaries General will take on key roles within the Governorate of Vatican City. This date coincides with Sister Raffaella Petrini, FSE, assuming office as the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate.
The appointments include Archbishop Emilio Nappa, who currently serves as Assistant Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, and lawyer Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, who has been Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City. Pope Francis has also entrusted Sister Petrini with the authority to assign specific duties and responsibilities to the newly appointed Secretaries General as required.
