The Holy See’s Call for Peace and Disarmament

At a recent event promoting issues related to hospitality, migration, and social inclusion, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin reiterated the Holy See’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and solidarity. He called for a disarmament of words and the rejection of nuclear weapons, urging world leaders to prioritize human dignity and global stability through diplomatic solutions.

Cardinal Parolin emphasized the importance of negotiations without preconditions for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, while also urging moderation in Gaza and condemning the possession of nuclear weapons as immoral, echoing Pope Francis’s stance.

    Disarming Words and Preventing Conflict

Reflecting on the power of language in international politics, Cardinal Parolin highlighted the need to disarm words to prevent conflicts from escalating. In a tense global climate, he stressed the importance of speaking less, using words wisely to foster unity, and avoiding division.

    The Immorality of Nuclear Weapons

Parolin pointed out the fragility of peace and the erosion of trust leading to increased military buildup. He reiterated the Holy See’s firm stance on the immorality of nuclear weapons due to their catastrophic consequences and called for diplomatic solutions to prevent war.

    The Role of International Institutions

The cardinal emphasized the importance of upholding international agreements for global governance and questioned the effectiveness of current institutions in addressing modern challenges. He urged renewed efforts to adapt international organizations to present realities and promote peaceful cooperation.

The Church’s Commitment to Peace and Migration

Cardinal Parolin highlighted the media’s role in amplifying messages of peace and dialogue and addressed the paradox of European attitudes toward migration. He emphasized the need for a positive approach to welcoming migrants and lamented the exodus of Christians from the Middle East, warning of the risks of radicalization and extremism in their absence.

Overall, Cardinal Parolin’s message underscores the Holy See’s dedication to promoting peace, dialogue, and solidarity on the global stage, urging world leaders to prioritize human dignity and pursue diplomatic solutions for a more peaceful and stable world.
