Welcome to an extraordinary morning at the Church of Saint Eustache, where the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Mission by St. Vincent de Paul in 1625 was celebrated in grandeur. The event was graced by Auxiliary Bishop of Paris Emmanuel Tois, accompanied by over 20 archbishops and bishops, and 150 Vincentian missionaries from across the globe.
Fr. Tomaž Mavrič, CM, the Superior General of the Congregation, emphasized that this anniversary is not just about looking back but also about moving forward. It serves as a reminder of the path they have walked and the journey that lies ahead.
The concluding celebration followed three days of profound preparation. The missionaries engaged in various activities, from formation sessions to Eucharistic celebrations at significant locations like the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the Chapel on Rue du Bac.
A highlight of the event was the tribute to Pope Francis, who sent a heartfelt message in December, expressing his support for the Vincentian Family and their mission to serve the poorest in society.
The Legacy of St. Vincent de Paul Lives On
Founded in 1625, the Congregation of the Mission continues the work initiated by St. Vincent de Paul, focusing on evangelizing the poor and nurturing priests dedicated to charity and justice.
St. Vincent’s vision led to the establishment of the Ladies of Charity and the Daughters of Charity, embodying a spirit of service and compassion towards those in need. This commitment is reflected in modern initiatives like the Famvin Homeless Alliance, echoing St. Vincent’s legacy of caring for the marginalized.
As the Congregation of the Mission commemorates its 400th anniversary, it renews its pledge to uphold the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul and continue serving the less fortunate.
