What commitment awaits you in preparing for the Conclave?
The Directorate of Infrastructure and Services is at the forefront of preparations for the Conclave, focusing on accommodating cardinal electors and renovating the Sistine Chapel simultaneously.
The team works tirelessly to identify suitable accommodations, update plans, and ensure all spaces are meticulously cleaned and maintained. With an increased number of cardinal electors this time, extra rooms had to be prepared, and a new layout for the Sistine Chapel was designed to accommodate the larger group while adhering to protocol and comfort standards.
Tasks include installing the iconic stove, darkening palace windows, deactivating technological devices, and sealing access points to the Conclave perimeter. The Directorate also provides round-the-clock service personnel throughout the Conclave.
How many staff members and what qualifications are required for those involved in this work?
The Directorate employs over 40 internal workers and around 20 external support staff, including technicians, carpenters, cleaners, and florists. A team of experienced technicians ensures the smooth execution of tasks, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
How does your team work before, during, and after the Conclave?
From evacuations to setting up ceremonial furniture in the Sistine Chapel, the team handles a wide range of tasks with precision and dedication. Special attention is given to isolating participants, providing essential furniture, and ensuring the functionality of all systems during the event.
After the Conclave, the team swiftly dismantles the setup to allow the Vatican Museums to reopen, preparing for the new Pontiff’s first solemn Mass.
