Early Life and Education

Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert Francis Prevost is the son of Louis Marius Prevost, of French and Italian descent, and Mildred Martínez, of Spanish descent. He pursued his studies at the Minor Seminary of the Augustinian Fathers and Villanova University in Pennsylvania, earning a degree in Mathematics in 1977, along with studies in Philosophy.

After entering the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977, he continued his theological education in Rome, where he was ordained a priest in 1982. He furthered his studies in Canon Law and eventually served as a missionary in Peru.
