Excitement fills the air as the Holy See announces the upcoming schedule for the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, including the Mass to mark the beginning of his pontificate.
Embarking on a Journey of Firsts
On May 10, the 267th Pope will meet with the Cardinals, followed by his first public appearance and blessing from the Central Loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica on May 11.
Here is a glimpse of Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming schedule:
- May 12, Monday – Meeting with the international press
- May 16, Friday – Meeting with the Diplomatic Corps
- May 18, Sunday – 10:00 AM, St. Peter’s Square: Mass for the Beginning of the Pontificate
- May 20, Tuesday – Taking possession of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls
- May 21, Wednesday – First General Audience
- May 24, Saturday – Meeting with the Roman Curia and Vatican City State employees
- May 25, Sunday – Regina Caeli, Taking possession of the Papal Basilicas of St. John Lateran and St. Mary Major
The Press Office also announced that Pope Leo XIV desires the current members of the Roman Curia and Vatican City State to continue in their roles temporarily until further notice. The Pope will take some time for reflection, prayer, and dialogue before making any permanent appointments or confirmations.
