Welcome Pope Leo XIV: A Message from the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference
With hearts full of joy and faith, the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on his election as the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a spirit of unity and solidarity, the Bishops expressed deep gratitude to the new Pope for accepting the immense responsibility of shepherding the Universal Church. They have pledged unwavering support and assured Pope Leo XIV of their continuous prayers. Recognizing the challenges that lie ahead, the Bishops have promised to lift him up in prayer, encouraging him to place his trust in the Lord who has chosen him and promised to be with him always. They ask that God grant him wisdom, courage, and strength to sow the peace he spoke of in his first words as Pope.
Unity and Faith
The SACBC is hopeful that Pope Leo XIV’s leadership will foster greater unity within the Church, deepen the faith of the people of God, and provide guidance to millions around the globe during these crucial times.
Archbishop Zolile Peter Mpambani, the Archbishop of Bloemfontein and the First Vice President of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference, signed the message, which was made available to Vatican News.
As we embark on this new chapter with Pope Leo XIV, let us join together in prayer and support for our Holy Father as he leads the Church with wisdom and grace.
