Stepping into his role as the new Bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV addressed the College of Cardinals with a powerful message that resonates with both tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from the legacies of Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIII, he spoke of the Church’s mission to navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing world, including the impact of artificial intelligence and the new industrial revolution.

Reflecting on the social teachings of Pope Leo XIII, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the relevance of the Church’s message in responding to contemporary issues. His choice of name symbolizes a commitment to human dignity and social justice, echoing the timeless values that guide the Catholic Church.

Expressing gratitude to the Cardinals for their support, Pope Leo XIV acknowledged the weight of his new responsibilities. He paid tribute to his predecessor, Pope Francis, highlighting his simplicity, dedication to service, and peaceful passing. In the midst of mourning, the Pope saw a paschal event, a moment of transition enveloped in the light of the Resurrection.

Looking ahead, Pope Leo XIV called for unity and renewal, building on the foundations laid by the Second Vatican Council and Pope Francis. He emphasized key themes from Evangelii gaudium, stressing the importance of Christ’s primacy, synodality, care for the poor, and engagement with the world.
