Get ready for a vibrant and crowded square that will welcome the first Regina Caeli of Pope Leone XIV. 150,000 people from all over the world are expected at St. Peter’s Square to meet the new Pontiff. Among them will be artists from band groups and popular performers ready to celebrate their Jubilee, made even more special by the election of Robert Francis Prevost.

It’s going to be a colorful and festive gathering, with a comprehensive security plan in place to ensure the safety of all attendees. Thousands of law enforcement officers will be deployed, alongside a network of dedicated volunteers who patrol St. Peter’s Square and the surrounding streets every day. The area will undergo thorough security checks, and attendees will pass through multiple screening points equipped with metal detectors before entering the square.
The Jubilee of the bands kicked off yesterday with numerous performances in 31 squares in the center of Rome. “We have taken over Rome,” joked Monsignor Rino Fisichella, the Vatican’s delegate to the Jubilee. “It’s the beauty of our people’s folklore, the beauty of being here.” The city is alive with music and entertainment, a blend of showmanship and prayer. Artists from around the world have filled the streets of the Eternal City, marching towards the Holy Door.
“For many, it’s a dream come true,” says Maria, a teacher from the Mexican band “Panteras Rebolledo Marching Band” from Coapetec, Veracruz. “It’s a true blessing to be here,” echoes director Jesus, dressed in white. “Music is our world, but above all, it’s a gift from God.”
The drums and guitars will also accompany the first Sunday as Pope for American Robert Francis Prevost. Giant screens will be set up in St. Peter’s Square and along Via della Conciliazione, similar to the funeral of Pope Francis, allowing all attendees to follow Leone XIV’s first Regina Caeli from the central Loggia. It will serve as a dress rehearsal for the next major event, the installation of the new Pontiff, scheduled exactly one week later on Sunday, May 18th.
For that occasion, over five thousand law enforcement officers, specialized personnel for the security of foreign delegations, anti-drone devices, sharpshooters, dog handlers, bomb disposal experts, two thousand volunteers, and 500 stewards will be on duty.
