Welcome to the enchanting Hermitage of the Purísima, just a short distance away from the quaint Navarrese town of Cintruénigo. Known affectionately as the Purísima by the locals, this Mannerist-style hermitage, constructed in the early 17th century, holds the distinction of being the first temple in Spain dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Inside, a magnificent Mannerist statue of the Purísima stands guard over the departed souls of Cirbon resting in the adjacent cemetery.
Every Jubilee Year, the image of the Purísima graces the town with her presence, a tradition that dates back several decades. During her last visit in the year 2000, the people of Cirbonela expressed their desire for more frequent visits from the Virgin, a wish that was granted by the Virgin herself, answering the heartfelt request of the townsfolk.
On the auspicious day of May 1st, the Archbishop of Navarre, accompanied by local priests, the Cintruénigo City Council, the Municipal Band, and a multitude of eager residents, embarked on a grand procession to bring the Immaculate Conception to Cintruénigo, symbolizing a union of faith and devotion.
As the Brothers of the Holy Sepulchre carefully carried the image out of the hermitage amidst a chorus of cheers, the procession commenced, with the solemnity of the occasion only interrupted by the harmonious melodies of the Municipal Band. The journey culminated in a warm reception at the Paseos, the heart of Cintruénigo, where the Immaculate Conception was welcomed by the mayor and the archbishop, setting the stage for a series of religious ceremonies.
The ensuing ten days were filled with fervent celebrations and religious observances, as the town came together to honor the Immaculate Conception, a beloved figure deeply revered by the people of Cintruénigo. From the Novena to the grand procession featuring both the Immaculate Conception and the Virgin of Peace, the town pulsated with spiritual energy and communal solidarity.
As the festivities drew to a close, the Immaculate Conception returned to her hermitage, surrounded by the faithful and accompanied by the melodious strains of the Municipal Band. The emotional farewell marked the end of a memorable chapter in the town’s history, showcasing the unwavering faith and devotion of its residents to the Virgin Mary.
