By Antonella Palermo
Step into the world of the Coptic Divine Liturgy, where penitence, prayer, and tradition intertwine in a mystical dance. His Beatitude Ibrahim Isaac Sedrak, Patriarch of Alexandria of the Catholic Copts, led a beautiful celebration of the Coptic Rite at the Pauline Chapel of St. Mary Major, a momentous occasion during the Jubilee of Eastern Churches.
The atmosphere was filled with reverence and history as Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, joined in the celebration alongside other distinguished guests. The Jubilee of the Eastern Churches is a time to honor the rich heritage and enduring faith of the Coptic community.
A Legacy of Martyrdom and Resilience
The Copts have a long history of martyrdom and endurance, with a unique spiritual experience that enriches the global Catholic community. Cardinal Gugerotti praised their steadfast witness and resilience in the face of persecution, highlighting the wisdom born from their blood. Their survival is a testament to their deep faith and unwavering dedication to their roots.
Prayers for Peace and Hope
As the memory of the late Pope Francis lingered in the air, prayers were lifted for the new Successor of Peter, Pope Leo XIV. The Patriarch expressed hope for a world free from greed and profit, echoing Pope Francis’s call for reconciliation with our common home. In a world marked by fear and confusion, the Coptic community stands as a beacon of hope, striving for justice and peace.
Unity and Faith
Looking ahead to the upcoming anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, the Patriarch emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast in faith and united in the spirit of the early Church. With the guidance of Pope Leo XIV, the Church continues its mission of spreading the message of Christ with courage and wisdom.
As the Divine Liturgy concluded, a sense of unity and purpose filled the chapel, with prayers rising up to the heavens for the Church and its leaders. The Coptic community stands as a shining example of faith and resilience, a precious part of the global Catholic family.
