Italian Rail Strike Postponed to Saturday 23 May
Good news for travelers in Italy! The national train strike that was originally scheduled for Saturday 17 May has been postponed to Saturday 23 May. This decision came after railway workers decided to delay their protest by one week, as announced by trade unions on Tuesday.
The strike watchdog, known as the Commissione di Garanzia Sciopero, requested the postponement to avoid significant disruptions during a crucial weekend in Italy. This weekend is packed with major events, including the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, the Italian Open tennis tournament in Rome, and the Grand Prix in Imola.
The Italian Transport Ministry confirmed the news and highlighted the importance of rescheduling the strike to ensure smooth operations during these events.
Originally set to affect Trenitalia, Trenord, and Italo services across Italy, the strike will now take place on Saturday 23 May from 01:00 to 23:59, according to the USB trade union website.
The USB and SGB unions are striking to demand the renewal of a national collective labor agreement in the rail sector. More details about the strike on 23 May will be provided closer to the date.
