Welcome to a journey through the miraculous story of Our Lady of Fatima, as shared by Father Rafael MosteyrÃn. Every year on May 13th, believers around the world come together to commemorate the first apparition of the Virgin Mary at Cova da Iria, Portugal, in 1917.
Picture this: October 13, 1917, a village in Portugal, thousands of onlookers witnessing a celestial spectacle. The sun, hidden behind clouds all morning, suddenly appeared as a radiant silver disc, encircled by a crown. It began to dance in the sky, emitting beams of green, red, blue, and orange light. The sun seemed to approach the Earth, causing fear among the crowd, only to retreat to its original position in the heavens.
This astonishing event was foretold by the Virgin Mary six months prior, during her first appearance to three shepherd children. In the midst of World War I, a time of great turmoil, the Lady from Heaven appeared to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, urging them to pray for peace and to make reparations for sins.
Why did the Virgin Mary choose these humble, illiterate children as her messengers? Perhaps to remind us all that greatness lies in simplicity and faith. Just as the children of Fatima were called to spread the message of peace, we too are called to make a difference in the world through prayer and good works.
