Welcome to my blog where I share the beautiful words spoken by Pope Francis during an audience with the Eastern faithful in Rome. The Pope’s message is filled with hope, love, and a call to preserve the unique traditions of the Eastern Churches.
In his address, Pope Francis reminds us of the importance of the Eastern Churches and their rich spiritual heritage. He acknowledges the diverse origins and history of these communities, as well as the hardships they have faced. The Pope emphasizes the need to cherish and esteem the Eastern Churches for their wisdom and traditions, which offer valuable insights into the Christian life.
The Pope also references Pope Leo XIII’s recognition of the dignity and significance of the Eastern Churches, noting that they played a vital role in the early days of Christianity. He urges us to preserve the Eastern liturgies and disciplines, as they are an essential part of the Church’s identity and heritage.
Furthermore, Pope Francis highlights the challenges faced by many Eastern Christians who have been forced to flee their homelands due to various crises. He calls for greater support and awareness from the Latin Christians to help preserve the traditions of the Eastern Churches, especially in the diaspora.
The Pope acknowledges the immense contribution that the Christian East can offer to the Church today. He encourages us to rediscover the sense of mystery and spirituality that is present in Eastern liturgies, emphasizing the importance of prayer, fasting, and penance in our spiritual lives.
In conclusion, Pope Francis reminds us of the healing power of the Eastern traditions and the transformative effect they can have on our souls. He invites us to join in prayer and praise, echoing the words of Saint Ephrem the Syrian in glorifying the Lord for His mercy and grace.
The Power of Easter in Every Trial
Let us seek the grace to recognize the certainty of Easter in the midst of life’s challenges and to remain steadfast, for as Saint Isaac of Nineveh once said, “the greatest sin is not to believe in the power of the Resurrection” (Sermones ascetici, I, 5).
Who can sing a song of hope in the face of violence better than you, who have been labeled as “martyr Churches” by Pope Francis himself? From the Holy Land to Ukraine, from Lebanon to Syria, the horrors of war have left a trail of destruction. Yet, amidst this darkness, there is a call for peace – not just from the Pope, but from Christ himself, who proclaims, “Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:19, 21, 26). His peace is a gift that brings new life, reconciliation, and forgiveness. Let us pray for this peace, which transcends worldly understanding and brings true healing.
I am committed to promoting peace and reconciliation, and the Holy See stands ready to facilitate dialogue and negotiations between adversaries. War is not inevitable, and weapons only breed more conflict. Let us reject the binary thinking that divides the world into good and evil, and instead, see each other as fellow human beings deserving of dignity and respect.
The Church’s message is clear: let weapons be silenced. I am grateful for those who work tirelessly for peace through prayer and selflessness. Christians, especially in the Middle East, who choose to remain in their homelands despite adversity, are beacons of hope. They deserve support and protection to ensure their continued presence in their communities.
Dear brothers and sisters of the East, continue to shine as lights in the world, embodying faith, hope, and charity. May your Churches be models of integrity and unity, promoting co-responsibility and transparency in all aspects of leadership. Let go of worldly attachments and remain steadfast in obedience and evangelical witness, following the example of Saint Symeon the New Theologian.
As I offer my blessing, I humbly ask for your prayers for the Church and for my ministry. Thank you for your unwavering faith and commitment. Stay strong, and may God’s peace be with you always!
