Sister Merletti, formerly the Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to her new role. Her appointment comes under the leadership of Sister Simona Brambilla, who made history earlier this year by becoming the first woman to head a Vatican department.

A Glimpse into Sister Tiziana Merletti’s Life
Born on September 30, 1959, in Pineto, central Italy, Sister Tiziana Merletti has dedicated her life to serving the Catholic Church. She took her first religious vows in 1986 and went on to earn a degree in Law in 1984. In 1992, she achieved a Doctorate in Canon Law from the prestigious Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
Her tenure as Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor from 2004 to 2013 showcased her exceptional leadership skills. Currently, she imparts her knowledge as a Professor at the Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Antonianum University in Rome and works as a canon lawyer with the International Union of Superiors General.
