Welcome to the blog where we celebrate the incredible life of Floribert Bwana Chui Bin Kositi, a Congolese layman who will be beatified on Sunday, 15 June 2025, in Rome. Known for his honesty and moral integrity, Floribert’s story is one of courage and faith.
Recognized as a martyr by Pope Francis in 2024, Floribert’s beatification will take place at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls during the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. The announcement of this joyful event was made by Bishop Willy Ngumbi M. Afr. of Goma, who shared the details provided by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.
Floribert’s life was a testament to his commitment to living out the Gospel values. Born in 1981 in Goma, he grew up in a wealthy family and pursued studies in law and economics. His professional career led him to work as a Claims Officer, where he faced a moral dilemma that ultimately cost him his life.
Refusing to compromise his principles, Floribert chose to destroy contaminated food rather than allow it to harm others. This act of integrity led to his abduction and murder at the age of 25. Despite the dangers he faced, Floribert remained steadfast in his faith, choosing to follow Christ’s teachings above all else.
Following his beatification in Rome, a thanksgiving Mass will be held in Goma on the anniversary of his martyrdom. This event serves as a reminder of Floribert’s sacrifice and a call to all believers to uphold justice, peace, and fraternity in their own lives.
Floribert Bwana Chui will join the ranks of other Congolese blesseds, further enriching the spiritual heritage of the Church in Congo. His story is a powerful reminder of the courage and conviction that can arise from a life lived in service to others and in fidelity to one’s beliefs.
