Cardinal Joseph Coutts Receives Pakistan’s Tamgha-i-Imtiaz Award for Promoting Interfaith Harmony
Cardinal Joseph Coutts, the Archbishop emeritus of Karachi, was honored with Pakistan’s prestigious Tamgha-i-Imtiaz award in recognition of his tireless efforts to foster peace among people of various religions.
The award was bestowed upon Cardinal Coutts by Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on the country’s 78th Independence Day. This distinguished honor is given to civilians who have made exceptional contributions to the nation, both locally and internationally.
President Zardari, in his address during the ceremony, lauded Cardinal Coutts for his commitment to promoting dialogue among different religious communities and advocating for social welfare and minority rights. Among the 104 individuals recognized at the awards ceremony, scheduled for March 23, 2025, were Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem and the late mountaineer Murad Sadpara, who was posthumously awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his remarkable contributions to mountaineering.
